Of Mice and Men
by John Steinbeck
directed by Vanessa Gibson
2 - 6 July 2007
The Minack Theatre, Porthcurno
“Guys like us that work on ranches is the loneliest guys in the world. They ain’t got no family, They don’t belong no place… With us it ain’t like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us.”
Steinbeck's classic story of two itinerant farmhands is a poignant tale of friendship and the need to dream. Clever, quick-witted George and childlike giant, Lennie, move from farm to farm like thousands of other workers, without ever being able to put down roots.
But they have a secret ambition, to buy a smallholding of their own. However, their plan is no more than a distant hope, until a casual conversation brings the possibility of realising it into sharp focus. Suddenly they have a chance to change their fortunes, but tragedy strikes and George is forced to make a terrible choice.
This timeless story is as fresh and moving as ever. Don't miss it.
